Day 4 - New York: snow and Tom Hanks

We thought it was meant to be Spring over here, but winter storm 'Saturn' dumped a bit of snow here overnight and this morning... have a look at what we woke up today:

How excited were we! Even though we were freezing cold, we did not complain for a minute! We much prefer this to Melbourne weather right now (sorry Melbournians!) We keep telling the New Yorkers that and I think they think we re s little crazy. The snow did however change our plans for the day slightly. Our volleys just weren't cutting it in this weather so we were on a mission this morning: find appropriate footwear!

After searching a few shops we both found some shoes. Troy was almost about to buy a pair of leather Ugg boots but he claims they weren't the right fit (I actually think he couldn't bring himself to buy a pair of Australian shoes in New York!)

Just as a side note, met the nicest New Yorker today - I tried on the display rain boot in the store but couldn't find the second boot. Troy noticed a lady just down from us who had the box and the other boot to the one I had just tried on, so I approached her and offered that she take them as she had them first (even though I was cursing myself inside as they were the first boots that actually fit properly!) I thought that I better do the right thing and offer. She told me that she will come back another time to get them so I could have them. I couldn't believe it - you don't see that too often these days! I was convinced that it was my good karma from the night before that paid off (the restaurant from the night before left off our drinks on the bill and I was honest and told them to add them on). Troy thinks she was just a nice girl who could see I desperately needed boots!

Anyway, after our successful shopping trip we headed to The Boathouse in Central Park for lunch which I had booked before leaving home. We got lost in the snow around Central Park so we were about 20 minutes late for our booking but it didn't matter! We had a window seat... have a look at the snowy view:

Here's a pic of inside the restaurant:

Lunch was steak, fries and vegies - it was massive though and we didn't get though it all! I've included a photo below for the foodies. I had a Californian Pinot Noir with lunch which was nice (better than the Californian Cab Sauv I had the night before which tasted like a Pinot!)

We had a nice walk through Central Park again after lunch (see pics below). The park looks magical with snow, although it was slippery (I nearly fell a few times much to Troy's embarrassment!)

We decided to visit the American Museum of Natural History which was fascinating and an amazing building - it's huge! We didn't get to see every exhibition but enjoyed our time there.

We've been told that your New York visit isn't complete without trying a few key foods - one being bagels! So today was the day. We popped into the bagel shop near our hotel - there were about 12 different bagel flavours to choose from, but we couldn't get other the number of cream cheese flavour options available... have a look at the below cream cheese menu board! (It was the best bagel I've ever had by the way!)

We got back to our hotel late afternoon to get ready for our off Broadway play starring Tom Hanks. We went for a drink beforehand in a restaurant which looked like a NY institution over the road from the theatre. The play is called 'Lucky Guy' - all we can say is WOW WOW WOW! It was such a great play - it is a true story about the career of a New York journalist (Pulitzer Prize winner and columnist for the daily news), Mike McAlary (played by Tom Hanks). Tom Hanks was brilliant - such a pro and amazing actor!! The whole cast were fabulous. We both absolutely loved it. A great end to the day!

It's meant to be 10 degrees tomorrow and sunny! So we have lots of site seeing planned!
