We headed to the shops first to try and find some warmer gear - I ended up buying genuine leather gloves for $18 (bargain!) and a new North Face fleece (soooo much warmer!)
As you will all know, I am a keen sewer and so a trip to 'Mood' was a highlight of the day for me. For those who are not familiar with Mood, it is the fabric shop featured in the US version of Project Runway... it is a sewer's heaven! I was on a high after going there, Troy couldn't believe how excited I was. He was not so excited about how long I made him wait for me (although truth be told, he enjoys watching Project Runway just as much as me!) I was very restrained though - I could have gone nuts in there! I've shared a couple of photos below.
The photo below of the roles of fabric is one row of MANY... I've never seen anything like it!!
We decided to jump on the Hop On Hop Off bus again and do the 'Uptown' tour which we hadn't yet been on. Once again, we had a very informative tour guide - as I love a bit of celebrity goss, the tour guide pointed out some celebrity apartment blocks, including Beyoncé and Jay Z's residence (well one of them!), Madonna's new place, Steven Spielberg, Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas and also where Jackie Kennedy Onassis lived.
Other highlights of the tour included travelling by the Lincoln Centre, Museum of Natural History, the Geroge Washington Bridge (the tour guide pointed out where 3 years ago, the US Airways' pilot safely landed his flight in the middle of the Hudson River!) We then drove through Harlem and saw the Apollo Theatre (where the Jackson Five first performed and were paid $5!) As well as Malcolm X's offices.
We hopped off at the Frick Collection (museum) which Mum and Sue recommended we go to (thanks!) which was great. The Collection was assembled by the Pittsburgh industrialist, Henry Clay Frick (1849-1919) and includes a range of old master paintings, European sculpture and decorative arts. The Collection is housed in his family's former residence on Fifth Avenue - amazing home and architecture!
After a brief visit and change of clothes at our hotel, we headed out to dinner in Greenwich Village, to a lovely restaurant recommended by Bec (thanks!) Called 'The Little Owl'. As it turns out, it is under the apartment block that was used for the cut away shots in the 'Friends' sitcom! The food was fantastic - I had lobster for entrée, Troy had the French Onion soup and we both had lamb shank for main. I had dessert too - cherry and apple strudel which was to die for! (Glad I didn't eat too much during the day!) I tried to take photos of our food, but the restaurant was too dark. Very romantic though! However, Troy was distracted by his celebrity spotting at the table behind us - we saw Kal Penn (for those who don't know him, he was in the tv series 'House' and also in the sitcom 'How I met your Mother'), but Troy tells me his most famous role was in the movie 'Harold and Kumar go to White Castle' (I have no idea!)
Now time for a good sleep before another full day tomorrow!
